And They’re Off!

The 2011 North American Rally to the Caribbean heads to Bermuda and beyond.

NARC Spots

Most of the fleet of 22 boats left Newport, Rhode Island, yesterday, November 1st, under fair skies, and should arrive in Bermuda sometime this weekend. This year’s NARC is the 12th edition of this event, which is organized by Hank Schmidt and Offshore Passage Opportunities, and includes boats ranging in size from a 36-foot Columbia to an Oyster 56 and eight Swans from a 44 to a 56. After Bermuda, the fleet then heads to St. Maarten.

Other than the camaraderie that comes with cruising in company, the NARC includes several social events such as dinner in Newport, a Gosling’s Rum Party in Bermuda, and a final Rally party in St. Maarten. There’s also a discount on dockage, free weather routing, and duty-free fuel in Bermuda.

Cruising World is a sponsor of this year’s NARC, and we will be featuring a wrap-up story in an upcoming issue. Learn more about the NARC and Offshore Passage Opportunities at www.sailopo.com, and you can follow some of the fleet (the participants with SPOT trackers) as they make their way south at .
