Clipper Ventures plc, organizers of the solo, round-the-world Around Alone yacht race has announced Champagne Mumm as the official champagne for Around Alone 2002-03, the longest race in any sport for any individual. Sir Robin Knox-Johnston, chairman of Clipper Ventures and race chairman for Around Alone, is thrilled that Champagne Mumm has chosen Around Alone. “Around Alone stands for strength, stamina, endurance and sheer guts. Champagne Mumm stands for quality and celebration and has a long association with sailing. We are delighted that the two have come together and that Champagne Mumm will be helping Clipper Ventures celebrate the outstanding performances of solo sailors in the 2002 Around Alone Race,” he said.
Champagne Mumm began its involvement in yachting 25 years ago–one of the longest running associations between a brand and a sport. Over the years, Mumm Champagne has expanded its involvement in the sport on many fronts: supporting top international regattas, the famous round the world races, and becoming the named sponsor of two classes of yacht–the Mumm 36 and the Mumm 30.
