Cruising World Wins Big in Annual Contest

Middletown, R.I. – At the 16th annual Boating Writers International (BWI) Writing Contest, Cruising World and Sailing World collected 16 honors in all, including five first-place awards and were recognized in 10 of the 16 categories. For the second straight year, Cruising World was the top-winning magazine.

Cruising World writers Herb McCormick, Alvah Simon, Gary Goodlander and Stacey Collins each took home a first-place award, while Stuart Streuli took home a first-place prize for Sailing World. The top-honor award for Sailing World was its first win ever in the BWI contest.

The yearly writing competition honors the top marine journalists in the United States and beyond for their “excellence in creating compelling stories about the boating lifestyle through entertaining, educational and inspiring journalism.” The latest BWI contest attracted 161 participants, with more than 450 entries.

Cruising World also claimed two second-place awards, three third-place prizes and six certificates of merit at this year’s contest.

Cruising World, published monthly by Bonnier Corp., is considered the bible for blue-water sailors. Cruising World nurtures cruising sailors’ dreams with practical how-to information and stirring real-life adventure articles.

Sailing World, the authority on performance sailing, is published nine times a year by Bonnier Corp. Advice on the latest boat models and equipment, as well as racing tips, tactics and techniques, make it a must-read for sailors who race to win.
