North Sails/Torresen Marine Collaboration in Muskegon, Michigan

Early in October, Torresen Marine, Inc. of Muskegon, Mich. announced the opening of a new sail loft and its affiliation with the world’s premier sailmaker, North Sails. This announcement brings the latest in sailmaking technology and services to West Michigan. The loft will operate on the grounds of Torresen Marine’s Lakeshore Drive campus. Among many other accomplishments, North Sails’ sails were used on nine out of 10 of the top boats in the last America’s Cup competition.

The North Sails affiliate, to be known as Bluffton Bay Sails, will operate under the guidance of seasoned sail making professional, Jim Frisinger. Frisinger, a Muskegon native, currently serves as the award winning service manager for North Sails Midwest in Chicago. The new loft expects to start operations in late October, just in time for winter service. Loft capabilities will include new sails, re-cuts, conversions and basic sail repair.

According to Torresen Marine president, Gordon Torresen, the loft will be a real asset to both the Lake Michigan racing and cruising communities. “It combines Torresen Marine’s thirty-five years experience as a full-service sailboat facility with the convenience of an on-site loft. With the North Sails affiliation, the loft boasts one of the most prestigious names in sailmaking, handling every thing from basic service and repair for the average sailor to the very top of the line technology for high-end racers.”
